Gateway
Year 9 (Term 1)
In French, the first Gateway project looks at the topic of self and family in a different way. Students research a celebrity of their choice and create a website using Google Sites in French. They learn the skills needed to create a website as well as the vocabulary and grammar structures to describe the celebrity and their family relationships.
In German, the first Gateway project looks at the topic of School. School research what school is like in Germany and compare and contrast this with their knowledge of British schools and create a website using Google Sites in German. They learn the skills needed to create a website as well as the vocabulary and grammar structures to describe their own school and make comparisons with another school in Germany.
Year 9 (Term 2)
In Term 2, we continue to develop grammar knowledge through the topic of Freetime in both French and German classes. We revise key grammar structures from Year 7 and 8, ready to build on these in Term 3 and Key Stage 4.
Year 9 (Term 3)
In Term 3, we build on previously learnt grammar structures and start looking more closely at the different strands of assessment in Key Stage 4.
In German, we do this through the topic of Family Relationships, which is studied in the format of a Murder Mystery.
In French, we cover the topic of Holidays and Festivals. We build cultural capital by comparing and contrasting festivals in French speaking countries and Britain.
